Re: Lit Review
So earlier I tried to sit down with House of Leaves which I've read before but it's been years now and I pull it down and get a little while in and stop, try again, get a little farther, stop. I love this book but it's not working. So I pull out the Conversations with William Gibson because I feel l...

Re: cooking thread!
https://i.imgur.com/KAwyRzd.jpg So speaking of beans, I have an issue with remembering to soak them and it's like - I am lazy, you know? I have to cook basically every day, several times a day, so a few nights ago I decide that yeah, I'm gonna remember to soak overnight. And I don't. lol. But I can...

Re: Retro tech
I was thinking recently that there's contemporary technology that is sort of either still using what's considered obsoleted tech for more niche users or actually emulates older technology since there's been a resurgent interest in it. But newer stuff is occasionally less convenient or more finicky -...

But did you have the PC game for it? https://www.gog.com/en/game/the_wheel_of_time  I don't think I ever owned it but I was around when it came out and I think it was a sort of C's make degrees kind of game. First person shooter feeling like a strange choice for something like WoT but in retro...

Re: Lit Review
Geeze, I read Wheel of Time in high school and at one point had the d20 game for it (I think it was actually reasonably good even, but I never played it) and then Jordan died, I never really went back to it and I assume it's still pretty good but I don't know that I could do all that again. Like, it...

I didn't end up posting the Italian beef because I wasn't really all that happy with it (it was fine, just really nothing special) but I did make some lentil soup today that's less impressive I guess, but really does satisfy. https://i.imgur.com/Yt4gbgo.jpg I don't really have a recipe this time, so...

Re: Lit Review
I work a lot and always have something going on, so I rarely have time to physically read anymore. I've been listening to audio books for years now when I am driving to and from work and things like that. I really enjoy it, and it scratches that itch for me. My tastes lean more into fantasy rather ...

I have a lot of books I own but haven't read yet, for kind of weird reasons Having a space to read is major. I've been reading at my desk - well, doing everything at my desk practically for years and it's not ideal but it's fairly comfortable. I just got the access to the couch back basically so I ...

Lit Review
https://i.imgur.com/gxY6y4l.jpg I didn't see a book thread so here's my literal reading to-do list I just got in. I've got a million things to read but getting Conversations in was a big deal because they've got an interview with David Wallace-Wells that's fantastic and I heavily cited in my thesis...

Re: Music
I've been listening to a lot of Mel Stone lately, absolutely would recommend.
Also, HEALTH released DISCO4 :: PART II pretty recently which I've been listening to a lot. Those are really my two big recent kicks.

I think I got all the strawberries in the normal game but I hadn't come back to play the next tier of difficulty so maybe I'll work at it sometime. It's a really solid game, but speedrunning's not my thing either.

Re: Hiding Gameplay on Steam
It's less that I'm ashamed than that I only have a few Steam friends who don't necessarily want to know if I'm playing waifu games and I've got slightly more people in Discord who probably also don't strictly need to know lmao.

Hiding Gameplay on Steam
I think for a long time it was difficult or impossible (?) to hide gameplay on Steam without setting up a dummy account tied to the original on Family share or whatever. But apparently, as of at least March there's been a setting that allows you to play stuff without broadcasting that you're permane...

Re: cooking thread!
how was it? did you basically sort of cook the orzo first and add it? it looks like it'd be good.. actually, cooked the cod first, then did the orzo and asparagus in uh chicken broth and a tiny amount of lemon juice iirc? and then added back in the cod at the end to get it warm again. The lemon is ...

I'm so excited to have these back in my life. I lost them when me and my ex split like a million years ago (which, valid lmao) but I got em back recently!
